World of Warcraft Item Upgrades Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it may increase the rarity of an item or mark Level, and also boost other stats. Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specified amount. Item Level The value of an item's stats base increases as it is upgraded. This is the sum of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly dependent on the upgrader and the type of upgrade you choose to perform. This is because of how many perks must be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded. The level of an item is a widely used measure of power, and can be seen on all tooltips for items. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players can use as PvP is restricted at a lower level. The average level of the item is listed on the character sheet. When deciding to purchase or sell equipment players can look at the levels of the item. It's an excellent indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it is able to deal. The level of an item can be used to compare items when looking at a vendor's inventory. On your PC, you can check the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat. There are many theories about how the level of an item is calculated. One theory states that the level of an item is determined by formulas that determine how valuable an item's stats actually are. It takes into consideration the fact that various perks have different value and that sockets have gems that increase the value of the item overall. This can result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is usually close to the actual Blizzard item level. However, this is not the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, since the size of the area the item dropped in can alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding a level to its haste rating or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl. Item Stats The stats of an item can make or break an item for players. The game utilizes them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to motivate them to try out other weapons. The stat mods on weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's level. Upgrades to the item add by increasing certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item for instance, can only be upgraded one time however, items with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times with higher prices. Another way to change the stats of an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and come in a variety of sizes and shapes. The affixes are used to give items extra damage, special abilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to distinguish them by adding a name. Currently, all affixes can be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circles arrows. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold as well as items, which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other options for rerolling. Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat or reroll attaches. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However each item will contain at least one stat in that range unless they are an item that is unique, or the item is a God Roll from a raid boss. Another thing that could change is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll attachments, or pick which stats to boost. Similar to base equipment, it must be done per item, and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats simultaneously. Item Luck The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the odds of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the strength of these properties. However, it doesn't directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade item s. It simply gives the player a chance to upgrade their equipment in earlier waves and is thus more beneficial in the initial game run than in later ones, because most players value greater weapon scaling and defense over raw damage gains. Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances, which increase with each level of the item. It is also possible to be increased by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing. Weapons, armor, and shields can spawn or be crafted by using the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to increase the luck of an item, up to 140. Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage of any ability that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items are available at the store, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients. Item Failure Upgrades to items can be a costly process and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful. The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading the item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased so high, and the probability that the upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%.. The luck of an item can affect the success of an upgrade. Each item has a base success rate of 25% and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent. The upgrade overlays of the item are displayed above items in the inventory. This could block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
